Greater New Orleans Area

Neighborhood Plat Map

Gentilly Homes

Overview:

This development will expand a program that is currently underway in Grenta, where RNDC built eleven single family homes seven of which utilized modular construction. This development was completed in two phases, the second phase of seven homes was completed in July 2008.

Description:

The Gentilly neighborhood has been identified in RNDC’s site selection strategy as a focus area due to its proximity to jobs, transit, and basic services as well as its high level of community and civic engagement. There has been significant community involvement in the planning process post-Katrina. Dillard University, a Historically Black College/University (HBCU) has stepped forward to be fully engaged in the neighborhood redevelopment process.

RNDC is engaged in the rehabilitation of an existing 150-unit rental housing structure called Chateau Carre at 3000 Gentilly Blvd across from Dillard University. RNDC would also like to provide both rental and homeownership opportunities for Gentilly residents. In an effort to bring about a holistic recovery of the entire neighborhood, RNDC is seeking to make repeated strategic investments in the same neighborhood, believing that each investment will enhance the other.

Status:

RNDC recently signed contract documents with the City of New Orleans Office of Recovery and Development Administration for $1 million in HOME funds. RNDC has also been selected as a consortium member to help implement the Neighborhood Stabilization Program Grant recently awarded to the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority.  Click here for a full project update report:
